| Well, its been awhile since my last post. These blog things arent to fun to keep up to date. But I'll just run over some things that have happened the past month.
Back in July, flew back home. Visited Cargill headquarters and saw parts of Mr. Staley's (Cargill CEO) crib. Crashed some weddings with Wilson and Vaughan. Denied acess to Beale St. in Memphis. Took home a new Ipod Shuffle.Got tipsy in hotels in Memphis and Chicago. Wandered downtown Chicago hungover. Then missed the Big Evans dinner b/c we missed the train back. Played hookie from work and went to Six Flags in GA. Started reading Harry Potter 6. And still managed to find some time to go to work every once in awhile.
With less than a week left in my internship, I'd just like to give a fair well to the state of AL and the south. Although I didnt get to do and see as much as I'd like to, its been an interesting experience, none the less.
I'll be back home by the 25th of August. See you back in Sota'. | | |
| I made my Fourth of July
weekend memorable after taking Friday off from work and having four
days to enjoy the holiday. I decided that considering I've made
it this far down south, I might as well go all the way, so I packed my
stuff and headed down to the Gulf Coast. By Saturday morning I
reached my destination, Panama City Beach, FL. I really had no
plans set, but I managed to get lots of R & R while laying
there on the beach all day. The beaches down there were just
gorgeous. And the weather could not be better; 90's and sunny the
entire time I was there.

I do have to say though, that I ended up doing very little adventure-seeking at
this popular vacation destination. There were loads to do here,
but it just wasn't the same without another friend to enjoy the time
with. However, I made sure that I did one thing that would be
memorable from this trip. I really wanted to rent those jet-skis
and cruise around the gulf, but I chose a slightly cheaper option:
parasailing. From the looks of it on the beach, it looked like a
thrilling ride. It turned out to be a little disappointing, only
because I got a little seasick on the boat while waiting for
turn. I had forgotten my other experiences while out on the
waters. I managed to not throw up, but it did ruin my moment
soaring above the ocean a little bit. I'll try those jet-skis the
next time I'm at the beach. And I won't let the waters ruin my
fun.

One interesting note on the ride back home. As I started to
make
my way up the interstate in Alabama, a rain storm rumbled by. For
a 10-15 mile stretch, I could barely see the car in front of me.
A few cars eventually pulled over to wait the storm out. I was
getting a little scared I might not make it home. But I mangaged
to get through and the rest of the ride home was pretty calm. The
long trip (1000 mi roundtrip) took a lot of me. I think I've done
enough driving for awhile. Time to enjoy my time here in AL for a
bit.
Well, just like to wish America a belated happy 226th B-day. God Bless America!

| Visited Birmingham today for Inroads. Pretty much the typical
Inroads seminar. Long, boring, repetitive stuff Inroads is known
for discussing during so called "business leadership" workshops.
I did acutally make the trip worthwhile. I visited the Birmingham
Civil Rights Institute and enjoyed the trip back in time to the civil
rights movement in the 50/60's. Hard to believe what life was
like only 40 or 50 years ago. I truely admire the heros that
endured the hardships or discrimination and segregation and continued to
fight for what was right: fair, equal rights for all citizens.
This will make tomorrow's excursion to Huntsville for the 16th annual Black Arts Festival even more meaningful...

| I got to see some familiar faces this weekend for the first time since I left Minneapolis three weeks ago. The past weekend, I headed out
west to Memphis, TN for my first official road trip to visit a friend
from the INROADS program. I cruised along Highway 72 on the 3 1/2
hr trip and managed to get the Civic up to 95 mph. As soon as I
got to her apartment, I was amazed by the great place she had.
Her apartment was located right of the Mississippi River in a gorgeous
neighborhood. I was definitely jealous of her housing
situation. Kinda wish I could have gotten my internship here in
Memphis. (Wish I could run/rollerblade/bike alongside the river everyday!)

All in all, a fun trip; I got to experience the city-lifestyle again,
met a group of cool people, and enjoyed the great weather outdoors.
Yesturday, a buddy of mine visited me here in Alabama. He was on
a business training trip to Nashville, and made the trip down to see
how I was doing. We ended up making our way to a nice restaurant
in historic Old Decatur, Simp McGhee's. Their fish special
catch-of-the-day was prepared in five different ways, so we each order
one of the dishes. It was definitely tasty!
Next weekend, I'll be headed down to Birmingham, AL for an INROADS training session. Hopefully I'll have another fun trip.
Everyone back home is welcomed to visit AL; I'm out...

I've succumbed to the
latest online craze, weblogging. I guess I didn't have many
options considering I've been sent away from home, the Midwest, to
Middle-of-Nowhere, AL for the summer and I haven't found any fun
alternatives yet (hopefully I do find some ).
But, I'm getting use to my new surroundings and once I get to know some
people (extremely nice people in Decatur), I should be in good shape.
Well, I'm out for now; Work at 7am...
